Initial Free Assessment
An important part of the assessment is that an honest independent
report is discussed with parents so that a mutual understanding of
each student needs can be obtained, and so a personalised, individual
work plan can be created.
If we feel that student’s problems are minor and the school
will probably correct them, then we will say so – but in our
experience, most parents are more aware of the basic problems than
even the teachers might be long before they come to our centres.
What happens after an assessment?
If we believe the situation warrants professional assistance we
will outline exactly what needs to be done, parents will be asked
if they wish us to help solve their problem.
If the parents do want our help we will then build an individual
work plan for the pupil.
When are the lessons?
Most Students come once a week for an 80-minute session. These are
held after school hours during the term, and take place (generally)
from Monday to Thursday and perhaps Saturday.
Some parents whose children are significantly behind and wish quicker
progress in one subject request two lessons per week. The costs include
the supply of all writing materials, paper, worksheets, use of computer
software packages, homework sheets and reading tapes. Parents may
prefer to pay each term or each half term in advance, or pay weekly
at the beginning of each session.
What happens in the lessons?
During an 80-minute session, students rotate between
individual time with their tutor, computer work and written studies.
We use advanced PC software specially written and extensively tested
for Kip McGrath. Don’t worry if your child is not fully PC
literate – he or she will even pick up some basic PC and
keyboard skills as they work through the various modules.
All programmes at Kip McGrath are designed to give students the
motivation to succeed. They start at the student's current level
of ability and progress at the student's own pace, so that he or
she is extended and challenged, but never overwhelmed.
